I'm the Vampire, That's Why, By Michele Bardsley

The first in a series of vampire novels by Michele Bardsley. I enjoyed the writing style, witty humor and the fact that she appeals to the older age group and not the teens. The cartoon cover may fool you into thinking it's a teen novel but trust me, it's NOT, although teens may enjoy it as well, I'm sure.

The book opens with a mom named Jessica Matthews who has two kids named Bryan 14 and Jenny 5. She's dragging the garbage pails out to the curb because her son conveniently forgot to do his one chore. Before she could finish the deed she was attacked and killed by a beast. She awakens in a room sucking on the thigh of a 4000 year old vampire who was stark naked and chained to the wall. Much to her surprise he has a full erection and offers it to her. She almost takes him up on that offer since she's been sex starved for 18 months. Her husband left her for his much younger secretary and was expecting their first child when he perished in a car accident. She never did get that divorce, now instead she's a widow. A voice comes over a loud speaker "Do not have sex with Mr. O'Halloran. If you have sex with Mr. O'Halloran, you will be mated to him for the next hundred years."

Jessica is wearing a ring that's been passed down from generation to generation in her family. A ring that Patrick O'Halloran claims is his, and only his soul-mate can wear the ring. Ahem...that would be her. She also finds out that his brother Lorcan is the beast that killed her and Patrick saved her by turning her into a vampire. Lorcan is a vampire too but has a vampire disease called the taint, which the Consortium is currently searching for the cure. It turns out that Jessica was not the only person Lorcan attacked and there are 10 more like her including her nemesis Charlene, the secretary that her husband Rich left her for. It just so happens the vampire that turns you is also your protector and Patrick also turned Charlene.

I loved this book. It was action packed and full of lust and desire. It will have you squirming in your seat wanting more. You'll love it.

The Morganville Vampires:
Glass Houses and The Dead Girls Dance
By Rachel Caine

A re-release of the first 2 books in one volume. Glass Houses and The Dead Girls Dance are about a vampire town called Morganville. A place where vampires and humans co-exist in a one of a kind town. Humans are encouraged to buy protection from the vampires to ensure their safety. If you are under contract you are required to wear a bracelet indicating your Vampire protection status at all times. Every resident is required to make a weekly blood donation as part of the deal. No one walks the streets at night in Morganville.

Glass Houses

Claire Danvers is an extremely smart young lady and graduated High School rather early for her age and is eager to attend a great college. The only problem is her over protective parents who cannot bear the thought of their little girl moving so far away to a huge University. They insist she start college close to home then transfer when she gets older. They send her to a College in a town not far from home in Morganville. Claire likes the classes but the students are downright cruel. This one girl named Monica has totally got it in for her harassing her to the of point of serious injury. Claire decides to look off campus for housing. Answering an ad in the paper she is led to the Glass House. Michael Glass the owner of the house is out but she meets a goth chick, Eve, who lives there and welcomes her with open arms after seeing the awful shiner Claire got from the bullies at school. Michael, Shane, and Eve are all roommates in the house and Claire is the forth. It's here that she learns all about Morganville and it's special kind of residents. The First Book leaves off on a cliffhanger but lucky for you the second book is right at hand.

The Dead Girls Dance

This book starts off with Shane's Dad arriving to annihilate all the vampires in Morganville. Hellbent on revenge and totally unstable killing off a vampire and getting Shane blamed for his murder. Shane is caged in the middle of the town square and is awaiting a beheading. Will Claire and friends be able to save him in time? Their only hope is Michael's grandfather a vampire they hope will help them. Eve and Claire hope to run into him a the Dead Girls Dance only Claire gets offered a drink that was drugged and then needs saving herself. This series is very interesting because it's a total different take on vampires with a lot of suspense, I enjoyed the Morganville Vampires, and I hope you do too.

Sweep, Volume 1, By Cate Tiernan

Three books in one. This one is a re-release combining the first three novels in one volume. This series is about discovering Wicca and Magick with a little mystery and love mixed in. Plenty of betrayal, spells, circles, rituals, jealousy, mystery and suspense. The first book starts out a little slow but it builds nicely. By the end of the first book I was hooked.

Book of Shadows

There is a new kid in town and he is smokin hot. His name is Cal and he is Wiccan and practices magick. No one is immune to Cal's charms including Morgan Rowlands. But before she can make it known that she has a thing for him her best friend, Bree, stakes her claim on him. Oh well she resigns to let Bree have him since she always gets what she wants anyway. Cal invites Morgan, Bree and some others to do a circle for Samhain. That's where Morgan discovers she has a special talent for magick and a Coven forms.

The Coven

So now that Morgan knows she's really a blood witch descended from one of the original clans, she confronts her family. They must be blood witches too, but they deny all of it. That's when she discovers she was adopted. Morgan and Cal's relationship starts to develop putting a rift between her and Bree. Bree even claimed to have slept with Cal. Morgan just thinks she's jealous because Bree didn't get Cal. Cal chose Morgan after all. Bree sets of with another clan member to form their own coven. While at Cal's house Morgan stumbles upon a secret door that leads to a library. There she discovers a secret kept hidden from her. Her mothers book of shadows.

Blood Witch

Morgan is coming into some pretty powerful powers. She scrys with fire and has a vision of her birth mother pointing under a house. The one her mother and father lived in before they were killed. She finds out they were murdered. Burned to death in a barn that was locked from the outside. She finds the house and under it a box with her mothers magickal tools. Now she has her mothers book of shadows and her mothers tools making her a very powerful blood witch. Cal and his mother seem overly interested in getting their hand on her mothers tools and Morgan begins to question her relationship with Cal. Cal's half brother, Hunter, is a Seeker for the International Council of Witches assigned to investigate Seline, Cal's mother, and Cal for using Black Magic. Hunter attacks Cal causing someone to fall off a cliff.

A Quick Bite, by Lynsay Sands

Ok, so this is an adult book, but older young adults are sure to enjoy this book as well. I thought this book was so funny. I mean laugh out loud funny. I just love Lynsey Sands ironic sense of humor.

The book opens up with Psychologist Dr. Greg Hewitt, he's closing his office to go on a much needed and long awaited vacation in Mexico. he boards the elevator to go to the parking garage and encounters a beautiful woman who happens to be a vampire that's out to kidnap him for her daughters 200+ birthday present. She uses her powerful mind control to get him to her car and suggest he get in her trunk. He has no idea he is being controlled and thinks he got in her trunk of his own volition. He is pretty hard on himself for doing something so idiotic. His internal dialogue is hysterical.

He wakes up tied to a bed in Lissianna Argeneau's bedroom. You know the birthday girl. Well she is a vampire with a very crippling phobia. She faints at the sight of blood! In this version of vampire tale, vampires have become sophisticated in that they do not drink blood directly from humans anymore, also known as feeding off the hoof. They are civilized and drink only donated blood out of bags. Because of Lissianna's problem she has been feeding off of humans that she can find usually at work where they turn out to be drunks and druggies.

Absolutely starving from lack of a good meal, Lissianna arrives at her birthday party and has a run in her pantyhose. She runs up to her room to change and finds a surprise. A gorgeous hunk of man with a red bow around his neck. Well she decides on a little snack before the festivities. Only her snack was not supposed to be feasted on. He was to be her therapist, to cure her phobia. Anyway she gets way more than she bargained for when she bites Greg. Their minds meld and they experience a euphoria of pleasure they almost get it on right then and there with him all tied up. That is until her mother walks in!

This book was so good you just have to read it for yourself. I'm actually really looking forward to reading this whole series. I really enjoyed it so much. I hope you do too.

Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, by Holly Black

Great story but needed a little tweaking here and there. Starts off slow but picks up speed almost going too fast and ends with a bang. Some of the conversation is hard to follow and seemed incomplete at times. There's a lot of bad messages in here that some young adults probably shouldn't be reading even though it's written for the YA audience. Including drinking, smoking, cutting school, having boys sleep in your room, staying out at night to all hours, cursing, etc. You get the idea.

Our main character is Kaye Fierch, a 16 yr old High School drop out. She's Asian but manages to be blessed a natural blond. Kaye's mom is a wannabe rock star playing in bars and getting so wasted that Kaye has to take care of her most of the time. They start out the story in Philly where her mothers boyfriend becomes possessed or something and tries to knife her. With no place to go the two wind up going back to New Jersey to live with Kaye's Grandmother.

Kaye remembers growing up there as a small child and thinks fondly of her old faerie friends. She's come to think of them as imaginary but soon discovers how real they were and are. Her Faerie friends contact her and Kaye discovers she is not the person she always thought she was.

Kaye happens upon a Faerie Knight that's gorgeous and badly wounded in the woods. He has shining silver-white hair that is very long and pointed ears. He needs her help. In exchange he says he will answer her 3 questions of her choosing. This strange encounter draws the unwanted attentions of the unseelie queen. The queen decides that Kaye will be their next human sacrifice called a "tithe"!

Very interesting reading. Like I mentioned earlier some of the dialogue is hard to follow but it's not very often so it's easy to overlook. The story is good so I didn't mind too much. I figure it's gotta be OK if there are 2 more books in this series. The next one is probably better written. Enjoy.

Undead and Unwed, by MaryJanice Davidson
(Queen Betsy "Undead" Series, Book 1)

Many reviews on this book say it's hilarious. In my opinion not so. It's mildly humorous, but hilarious, I think not. It's kind of like the chick from "Legally Blond" gone vampire but slightly more annoying on the personality of Betsy Taylor, the main character. If you like that type humor, you will adore this book. This ones not for the guys, that's certain. All you girly girls who love fashion and shoes, you will treasure this series.

Betsy is a former model, gone secretary, but recently got canned on her 30th birthday. She is a total fashion expert and spends all her money on designer shoes. She's single and lives with her cat that keeps running away. The night of her birthday she wonders out in search of her lost cat and gets plowed down by an SUV. She awakens in a funeral parlor lying in a coffin. She discovers her Mother-in-law has her dressed for her own funeral in a tacky pink dress and the worst cheap shoes that could have been purchased at payless! She is outraged and totally flabbergasted as to why she is a walking corpse.

Betsy is determined to finish the job of offing herself for good. After a dozen attempts kind of like that in that movie "Groundhog Day", she discovers she is here to stay. If she's going to be undead she is going to get her shoes back from good ole evil step mom. She starts craving blood and realizes she's not just a zombie, she's a vampire. She's not the run of the mill type vampire either. She is special because holy water does not burn, she can recite scripture, hold a cross and go into the sunlight without bursting into flames.

The undead community believes she is part of a prophecy come to life. One that says she will defeat the Vampire king and become Queen of the vampires. This book starts off rather funny and innocent but let me tell you there is a lot of graphic sex scenes towards the end. Some of it you will be shocked at what is described. I was like whoa holy sh*t! Yep. You will either be disgusted or turned on. Either way you'll love it! ;0 Oh My!

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire Prince,
by Darren Shan

Sequel to Cirque Du Freak: Trials of blood

Well, I unwittingly started in the middle of this series somehow. Oh well. I'll do this review then start at the beginning, so look for those reviews in the future. Don't worry, I link all my series books together at the bottom of each review. This book, (book 6), I would say is more for the young adult male audience. It did however suck me right into the plot in the blink of an eye. Short novel. It doesn't take very long to read, and the plot is simple, not a lot to it.

Half vampire half human, Darren Shan, the author is also the main character. Not very original, is it? He is a vampires assistant, they don't really go into much detail about what that means, but maybe it was in a previous book. His mentor, Larten Crepsley, shuffles him off to take a test to see if the undead will let him join their ranks. It's called the "Trials of Initiation," consisting of 5 different tests. If he passes all tests he can live, if he fails any test they execute him.

Darren passes the first three trials, but on the fourth the rules were broken. Darren escapes, but at a costly price. He falls into a vicious stream and is carried away and swept underground into the belly of a mountain. He manages to survive and is nursed back to health by wolves. Rather disgusting details here that guys are sure to enjoy.

There is a second race of vampires called the vampaneze. Darren figures out this whole traitor conspiracy thing involving the vampaneze. Then he has to sneak back to vampire mountain, and there is a war that is like the whole second half of the book. There is nothing in it really for us girls. No romance at all. The one woman they had as a warrior dies rather swiftly and unbecomingly. The vampires are all ruled by Princes. At the end they decide Darrens fate, so I won't give it away. All in all, if I was a guy, I'd love it, so that's why I'm giving it a review. I'll only review books I think are worthy here. You will never see a bad recommendation from me.

I scoured the Internet for an excerpt from this book and this was all I could find:

The Immortals Sreies:
Evermore, By Alyson Noel

Ever dies too... for a brief moment she's in a place called "Summerland" a sort of in between place. She gets caught up in it's beauty and doesn't realize her family has moved on. She tries to catch up to them when she is pulled back into her body. Racked with pain she sees a guy... he cradles her in his arms and asks her name. She tells him "Ever" before she passes out.

Ever blames herself for her families death and you don't learn why until the end of the book. After the accident, Ever becomes very unpopular. She can see auras and hear peoples thoughts. If she touches someone she can see their whole life story. She tries to drown out the constant chatter of minds and very unwanted thoughts invading her. She hides herself in a hoodie sweatshirt and blasts an ipod that she's conveniently sewn into her hoodie. Her dead sisters ghost hangs around and Ever has frequent conversations with her.

Ever now an orphan moves to a new town to live with her Aunt Sabine, her fathers sister. Sabine is a lawyer and very wealthy. She tries to comfort Ever by giving her a giant room with a spa, living room, flat screen, balcony with view of the ocean beach, mini fridge, etc. The only downfall is Sabine is too busy working and never at home.

Ever makes 2 friends at school, Haven a goth chick, and Miles a gay guy. Then a mysterious new guy comes to school. His name is Damen Auguste. He is gorgeous and charming. All the girls and guys are swooning over him. When Ever finally meets him she is in awe of his fantastic beauty and lack of aura! Captivated, and it's as if the world stops and it's all dead silence. No more chatter in her head just Damen and peace. She starts a relationship with him and then she meets Drina. A really beautiful girl who is creepy and somehow involved with Damen. The book takes off from here.

Vampire Kisses, by Ellen Schreiber

This is for the younger, young adults. Although, I enjoyed it nonetheless, and I'm 36. I like my books a little more action and suspense, but it was still worth reading.

The main character is Raven Madison, a 16 yr old goth girl who wants to become a vampire in the worst way. She lives in a small town she calls "Dullsville" and has only one friend to speak of. She is a social outcast.

A boy named Trevor sets Raven in his sites and tries to get her to give up her virginity at a popular kids party that she crashed, but she isn't exactly a push over and turns the tables on his plan. She acts as if she's all into him and makes him get naked then she grabs his cloths and runs for the hills. He becomes the laughing stock of the school when she displays an article of his clothing on her locker everyday at school. He gets so mad he becomes her arch nemesis throughout the book.

Then a mysterious family moves in to the boarded up mansion that sits atop of Bensen Hill. The house is rumored to be haunted and only Raven was brave enough to actually break in when it was vacant. Now a cute guy named Alexander Sterling has moved into it and rumors start to circulate that he and his family are vampires. Raven is determined to find out the truth and to maybe get bitten and become a vampire herself!

I love a good long series! This one shows promise.

Bitten, by Kelley Armstrong
(Women of the Otherworld Series, Book 1)

This book is definitely for mature audiences. Extremely detailed Sex scenes, killing, blood and gore. I loved it!

This book is about the only female werewolf in existence, Elena Michaels. The werewolf gene is passed down to sons but not daughters. Elena was bitten by a werewolf and miraculously survived the change against the odds becoming the only female werewolf in the world. She still harbors resentment against the werewolf that bit her, Clay, her x-fiancee. Werewolves live in packs and don't kill humans. Those that choose not to live in a pack are called mutts and sometimes do kill humans.

The only thing Elena has wanted her entire life was a family. Becoming a werewolf squashed that dream, but she tries her hardest to create as much of a family as she can and still keep her secret. Elena, a mutt, living in Toronto-Canada, is dating an architect that she recently moved in with. Living with a human guy does make it difficult to leave in the middle of the night to go running naked in the woods. But she manages to keep it together.

Then she starts getting phone calls from her former pack mate and leader of the werewolves, Jeremy, saying it's urgent that she contact him. She tries avoiding the call but eventually gives in and calls, and calls, and calls. No one picks up even after days of trying. Finally sick with worry she decides to take a trip back to the place she ran away from months before, Upstate New York, and Clay.

Arriving in NY she discovers that mutts have been killing humans a little too close to pack territory bringing unwanted attention to the pack. Elena tries to help her pack mates defend their territory while trying to deal with her old flame Clay. The story really takes off from here. Amazingly detailed and believable. Nicely done.

Edward tries staying away from Bella but he's attracted to her because she's so different and because her mind is silent. He has no idea what she's thinking.

Then Bella's unusual magnetism of bad luck almost gets her crushed by an out of control vehicle. Edward saves Bella's life. He reveals his superhuman speed and strength to save her. Grave Sight, by Charlaine Harris

Fantasy lovers this one is not for you. Harper Connelly is no superhero. However, she can locate the bodies of the deceased and tell you what, in fact, did them in. She is the real deal and is 100% accurate on cause of death. She travels from place to place trying to earn a living off her ability. Her stepbrother, Tolliver, travels with her and helps her along the way not only managing, but other things as well. You see, Harper came upon her ability only after being struck by lightning. It was Tolliver who resuscitated her and saved her life. Although this book has fantasy tones it is firmly grounded in reality. Harper suffers strange side effects from the accident and is still weak in one leg, the one with the strange spider veins on it.

Harper and Tolliver travel to Sarne, Arkansas, to find a missing teenage girl named Teenie. She's been missing for over six months, and many assume her body is somewhere in the woods near where her boyfriend was found shot. The boyfriend's mother wants to clear up the town rumor that the boy killed Teenie and then shot himself. But when Harper finds the body and tells everyone that Teenie was definitely murdered, and most certainly not by her boyfriend, she and her brother find themselves in danger. Harper's life is threatened and Tolliver ends up in jail on trumped-up charges. Harper and Tollivers relationship seemed a little too close for brother and sister and it kinda was a little creepy. I would say overall the book was pretty serious and dark, but I did enjoy it in a different way then I usually do.

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle, by L.J. Smith

Book 1 and 2 in one volume.

Elena is blond, gorgeous and the most popular girl in school. Her friends, Caroline, Bonnie and Meredith are pretty and popular too. Elena is used to getting what she wants and what she wants is the mysterious dark handsome new guy, Stefan. She dumps her quarterback boyfriend Matt in hopes of something sparking with Stefan. Elena tries every trick and lure she knows to attract Stefan and nothing is working. She doesn't understand it. To top that off her friend Caroline has turned against her and is trying to steal Stefan for herself.

Stefan notices Elena right off the bat. She looks exactly like his long ago lost love, the one who transformed him into a vampire. It is only with his lapis lazuli ring, a talisman forged with a powerful magic that allows a vampire to endure the sun without perishing, that he is able to live like a human. Tortured by the mere site of Elena, he does everything in his power to avoid her and her charms. Then along comes Damon, Stefans rival brother. The one who killed his beloved so long ago. Damon wants Elena and Stefan can't let that happen, not again. Not without a fight.

Damon is dark, sexy and dangerous. He follows his brother to this town in the middle of nowhere only to discover a rare beauty, Elena. He is captivated with her and will stop at nothing to possess what he desires. The only hitch in his plan is Stefan, the one who destroyed his true love so many years ago. The only girl he's ever loved, the one that made him a vampire.

This book was really good. I loved the brotherly hate and lust after Elena. It was very dark and fun. You'll love it.

Blue Bloods, by Melissa De La Cruz

Some of you may not like this book. It starts off too slow and then just when you get to the good parts it ends before the climax. WTF. I felt cheated, especially since I read all that boring crap in the beginning. I was expecting an ending at the least. Nope! But I'm reviewing this book because I really did like the second half of the book, and if it had an ending I would have liked it even more. It is my hope that the sequel has a climax or two and is as interesting as the second half of book 1.

If you are still interested in reading this book, I recommend you have book 2 handy for when you finish this one because it leaves you hanging. Also, save yourself the torture, and skip to chapter 19 and start reading from there. The beginning is BORING and you won't miss it. I'll fill you in on it here so don't worry.

There are a lot of main characters, but only two groups of friends. The first clique is Schuyler, her BFF Oliver, and new friend Dylan, they are treated like outsiders by the popular clique who is made up of twins Mimi and Jack Force and BF Bliss. They all go to this high end private school in NYC. They all grow up as normal as the rest of us until they start the change. They start to get a strange pattern of blue veins on their arms and crave raw meat. Some experience knowing things they haven't been taught. (ex. another language.) Then they also experience a kind of daydream where they remember a past life. The reason all this is happening is that they are all vampires (blue bloods) and have been reincarnated every 100 years. So they live forever and can't die, EXCEPT if they are killed by a silver blood. All blue bloods are asked to join a prestigious charity group where they learn who they really are. This is where it gets good. Chapter 19, Schuyler is joining the charity and things get interesting from there. Schuyler is also only part blue blood. Her father was human. She shouldn't even exist because blue bloods cannot reproduce new souls like humans can. The book does end before you get to any real action. That's why I'm hoping book 2 is better.

Marked, by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

House of Night (book 1)

Zoey Redbird is 16 and lives in a world where vampyres are an accepted part of society. Everyone starts out human but a select few get chosen to be vampyres. Those that are chosen will make the transformation into a vampyre or die if their body rejects the change. Once you are chosen you must leave your old life behind and enroll in a new school just for vampyres, The House of Night. It is there you learn what it is to be a vampyre and how to live as one.

Zoey is a regular teenager with a regular life. She's dating a guy on the football team and has a best friend. She can't stand her family especially since her mom remarried a total a-hole who makes her life a living hell. She's standing by her locker when she's approached by a vampyre and is marked in front of all her friends. The mark is like a tattoo in the middle of her forehead an outline of a crescent moon. Zoey goes to see her grandmother who she is close to about the change happening to her. She trips and falls and goes into some sort of dream state where she meets the Goddess Nyx who tells her she is special and meant for great things. When Zoey awakens she discovers her mark has been filled in. At the House of Night, Zoey makes new friends and some powerful enemies. She meets a new guy, but her old one doesn't seem to want to go away. People are drawn to her because of her special mark. Only adult vamps have a filled in mark, all except for Zoey.

The book contains some suggestive language and sex. I've read all the books in this series so far and I must say they just get better. I'm looking forward to a book 5!

Vampire Academy, by Richelle Mead

In this novel there are 3 types of vampires:
1) Moroi (Born vampires)
2) Dhampirs (half breed - vampire/human) Sworn to protect all Moroi from Strigoi.
3) Strigoi (extremely powerful vampires that have been damned and will stop at nothing to kill all Moroi.)

A Dhampir named Rose and her best friend Lissa have been on the run for 2 years. It's up to Rose to keep Lissa, a vampire princess and the last in the Dragomir line, safe from Strigoi. Rose and Lissa share a special bond because of Lissa's special abilities. They are captured and returned to the Vampire Academy from which they escaped to face ridicule, speculation, and danger.

Lots of social politics and pressures. Adult content, language, steamy sex, love triangles, friendships and loyalty. Strangely fascinating and exciting plot that has you up all night reading instead of sleeping. I was pleasantly surprised I liked this series so much. After reading the "Twilight series" I didn't think anything could compare. The main character turns out to be Rose and not Lissa which confused me a little in the beginning but I enjoyed this book and the 2 others that followed.

Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris

An HBO series called "True Blood" is based on these novels by Charlaine Harris.

This is about a small town waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who has the ability to read minds. This ability makes it impossible to date. That is, until the Chinese invent True Blood, a synthetic blood that's just like the real thing.

Vampires decide it is time to make themselves known to the public since they no longer have to rely on humans as a food source. The first vampire Sookie meets comes into the bar where she works. She notices right away that she cannot hear his thoughts and feels drawn to his silence. It's a welcome relief not to hear the constant bombardment of thoughts. She overhears with her ability some other patrons planning to drain the vampire of his blood. Vampire blood is like a drug and is sold for about $200 a vial.

When she realizes that the couple left with the vampire, Sookie is compelled to try and save the vampire. Now outside the bar, she listens with her ability and locates the couple. She can't hear the vampire but she hears the couples thoughts and they are none too good. She sees they have him chained down with silver and they are draining him with an I.V. Arming herself with a large chain she gets out of her brothers truck, she sneaks up behind one guy and slams him with the chain. There's a fight and the couple leave. So, she saved the vampire. He feels grateful and notices something different about her. They start up a romance, but things get ugly when dead girls keep turning up around town with vampire bites. Sookie tries to use her ability to find the killer.

Suspense, romance, action, very hot sex, and intrigue, this novel has got it all.

Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld

This book was great! It's about a young girl who is 15, living in a future where when you turn 16 you are given plastic surgery that makes you supermodel gorgeous. Tally can't wait to be pretty. All her older friends are partying it up in prettytown while she's stuck in the Uglies dorms outside of the city. She misses her friends but makes a new one in uglyville, Shay.

All Shay's friends are either in Prettytown or have escaped into the wild where a mysterious guy named David lives. He has been rumored to have grown up in the wild. In a place called "The Smoke" Shay shows Tally she has other choices. She doesn't have to become pretty, she can stay ugly. Tally doesn't want to stay ugly, but when Shay escapes into the wild, Tally is recruited by Special circumstances to track down Shay and expose "The Smoke". Tally doesn't want to betray her friend but she must if she wants the operation to become pretty.

Something else happens during surgery that may change Tally's outlook on becoming pretty. And she didn't mean to fall in love with Shay's almost boyfriend, David, either. Now she's torn between becoming Pretty and staying Ugly when she finally decides what she wants to do Special Circumstances swoops in to ruin it all. Will Tally become a Pretty and reunite with all her old friends or stay ugly, stay with David? Hmm. I guess you should read it and find out! It's a great read.
